The artist has derived inspiration for the current body of work from the following quote. It particularly influenced the creation of Pattern in the Path (one of the attached images):
"In the middle of my life, I drew the path of it upon a map and I studied it a long time. I tried to see the pattern that it made upon the earth because I thought that if I could see that pattern and identify the form of it then I would know better how to continue. I would know what my path must be." –Cormac McCarthy, Cities of the Plain
Artist Statement: I seek a reduction of information to create pattern and rhythm. I build systems that will develop unpredictable outcomes, to balance order by allowing materials, dyeing techniques and woven structure to determine results. I am currently focusing on generating pattern through written/spoken word and body movement.
Bio: Casey Galloway holds a BFA in Fiber from the University of North Texas and is the Fiber Department Coordinator at Southwest School of Art. She has shown her work in exhibitions across Texas, including the Art Room in Fort Worth, Artpace San Antonio, Hello Studio, Gallery Nord, and Rockport Center for the Arts. In addition to her studio work, Galloway is dedicated to handmade and naturally dyed functional objects.
