Motherling Presents The Herstory Project, Chapter Three: Rest by Bria Woods

Opening Reception: March 11th from 7-10 pm at Mercury Project

On view through April 1 by appointment only

Chapter Three: Rest (2023) is the multimedia third installment of the ongoing Herstory Project -
documenting and archiving the stories of women in San Antonio who are shaping the community in a positive way. This chapter features 15 women who are responding to the topic of rest. I chose rest as the theme because it seems to be something we all want, but aren’t getting enough of. As we continue to navigate a global pandemic, worsening political tensions, unrelenting racism, and prejudice, an ongoing war in Ukraine, an energy and climate crisis, and a financial crisis…how do we find rest? Through digital and film portraits, video portraits, and audio recordings, these women are taking up the pen of history to document their truth, to document her story. In the recordings for Chapter Three: Rest each woman uses her own voice to answer three questions: How do you find rest? Are you getting the rest you need? What are some ways we can make rest more communal?
Know their names, learn their stories, and investigate your truth. Most importantly choose rest. Let the Herstory Project be a resource for finding role models and inspiration for your journey with these powerful and impactful women.
