The Glorious Way She Moves is an evolving portrait series by San Antonio artist, Barbara Felix. From her artist statement: I paint whole-body, multi-image portraits of women of color in San Antonio as part of my evolving series, The Glorious Way She Moves. My work celebrates the individuality, strength, and joy of women across diverse backgrounds, honoring their resilience and contributions. As a woman of mixed Hispanic and Black ancestry, I strive to foster solidarity and representation through my art, resisting forces that seek to divide us.

By filming my muses dancing, I capture their unique essence, translating expressive movements into layered portraits. These works highlight both the historical roles of women of color and their contemporary achievements amid today’s challenges. Through vibrant imagery and audio, I aim to create a deeply personal, multisensory experience that inspires connection, empowerment, and hope. My goal is for viewers to see themselves reflected in these women’s stories—recognizing joy as a source of power, resilience, and collective strength in uncertain times.
